What's new in print services

The following print server features have been added or changed in AppleShare IP 6.3.

    LPR browsing by clients:
You can register print queues with SLP (Service Location Protocol) so that client applications can browse for LPR printers on their IP subnet. If you have an SLP router installed, the client applications can also browse outside their subnet for LPR printers.

Queue setting for placing new jobs on hold:
You can place a print queue's new jobs on hold and release one job at a time without putting the entire queue on hold.

    Secure queues for Windows clients:
Windows-based LPD clients with user names can access a secure (non-password) print queue.

    TCP/IP support:
You can print over TCP/IP using the LPR/LPD protocol.

    Secure printing:
If client computers have the LaserWriter driver version 8.6.1 or Mac OS 8.6 or later, you can require users to enter a password before printing.
